sakeina syed is a writer based in toronto.

her writing has been published in Vogue, The Walrus, Teen Vogue, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Local, Maisonneuve, Slate, Refinery29, Chatelaine, VICE, Toronto Life, Quill & Quire, Stylist, Catapult, West End Phoenix, Spacing, and others. she has also appeared on NPR to discuss her writing.

sakeina completed fellowships with The Local and the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA). she also interned at the University of Toronto’s Investigative Journalism Bureau, which publishes through the Toronto Star.

in 2020, sakeina received the Amnesty International Canada Media Award for Post-Secondary Journalism. in 2023, she received the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) Student Award of Excellence. she was also a finalist at the 2023 National Magazine Awards.
